Sanskrit Academy offers both in-person and correspondence classes. All classes are currently taught by Vishwa Krishnamurthy, a senior student of Dr. Sarasvati Mohan. Classes are offered for both adults and kids ages 5 years and above.

In-person classes

In-person classes are currently offered only in San Jose Course materials can be bought at the same location and will be available for purchase on the first day of the classes. Please refer to San Jose classes faq for more details.

Correspondence/Online classes

Online classes are held via Skype. They follow a similar format like the in-person classes. There are currently students all over the world who are enrolled in online classes. Please refer to Online Classes faq for more details.

Where are the classes held?
At present all classes are taught in Sandeepany building in San Jose. The address is 10160 Clayton Ave., San Jose.
When are the classes held?
At present the classes are held only on Saturdays every week.
What is the class format?
Classes run for one hour every week. Concepts will be introduced in the classes. Students will work on exercises from the text books and workbooks. Students will be expected to complete homework before returning to the class the following week. There will be quizzes and finals at every level. At the completion of each level the students will be awarded a certificate of completion through Sanskrit Academy.
What lessons are taught in each level?

How important are the assignments?
Assignments in each level are very important. Assignments constitute reading, writing and listening to study materials. Students are expected to devote at least two hours per week for the assignments.
What materials do we receive?
Course materials vary for each level. Level 1 materials include text book, work book, CDs, flash cards, step-by-step writing book, picture dictionary and verses from the Gita or Yoga Sutras. Level 2 materials include text book, workbook, CDs, beginner's dictionary and time. You may receive some other related worksheets from time-to-time for additional practice if necessary. There is a one-time fee charged for the course materials at the beginning of each level.
How much does it cost?
The fees vary by level. In general, each level has a one-time material fee and a monthly class fee. Please contact Vishwa Krishnamurthy to get more details.
Do you conduct personal classes?
At the moment all classes are group classes. I believe that the students learn better when they interact in a group. On an average there are about 4-5 students in a batch.
My child is less than six years old. Is there any way that my kid can join the classes?
Ocassionally, I conduct classes for kids who are less than six years old. Please contact me for further details.
What is the current schedule of batches?

Can my child join an existing batch?
It depends. If the batch has just begun and if I feel that your child can makeup quickly then I can let them join the existing batch. I will need to assess your child. Please contact sanskritvishwa@yahoo.com for more details.

FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions About Correspondence

The following is a list of frequently asked questions about the correspondence course:

How many levels of courses are offered through correspondence?
At present all seven levels of courses are being offered through correspondence. Each course requires daily homework of half an hour to one hour. Each one of these courses is equal to a semester of the University language course.
What is the format of the classes?
The classes are held via Skype. There will be a one hour session on Skype every week. The students will be assigned homework. Students should expect to devote about two-three hours every week to complete the assignments. Completed assignments can be scanned and emailed or physically mailed to me. I will correct and send it back. Students must resubmit the homework with the corrections.
In addition a Study Guide is provided to the students. The students can follow the Guide to track their progress.
Do we have to finish a course in a given time period?
You do not have any time restriction. You work as much as you can. But the correction and guidance service will end at the end of one year at the latest. This service is for 12 times/12 months or one year, whichever is earlier.
