About Gajananam

Gajananam

Gajananam is a direct disciple of Swami Vishnu-devananda and the founder/director of the Vishnu-devananda Yoga Vedanta Center in Berkeley, California. He has been teaching yoga and meditation for 20 years, served as the director of the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in New York City in the 90s, and has taught at Sivananda yoga teacher training courses and retreats around the world.


Gajananam became interested in studying Sanskrit due to his love for chanting Kirtan, mantras and slokas, which have a wonderful uplifting vibration. With the desire to pronounce these more accurately as well as deepen his understanding of the mantras and ancient scriptures, he commenced his studies under Dr. Sarasvati Mohan in 2004. Currently he is has completed level 6 course with Dr. Mohan and is actively teaching Sanskrit levels 1 and 2 courses at the Vishnu-devananda Yoga Center and other Sivananda centers and ashrams.
